Dirty Sexy Money 1×01 – Pilot

June 22, 2008

Dirty Sexy Money

Pilot episode of Dirty Sexy Money, in which we meet the illustrious Darling family, and Nick says a lot of things he has to take back.

Originally I watched this series about 3 months back, but since they’re showing it on local TV now, I thought I’d keep current and watch it all over again. It is somewhat addictive and involes rich people and lots of extravagance, what could be better TV?

I love Tripp Darling. Something about the way he talks makes everything so fantastic. And ditsy twins Jeremy & Juliet and the acerbic Reverend Brian. They put the fun in dysFUNctional families.

i didn’t want to do a normal summary on what this epi was about, so below are lots of lists of DSM things instead.

Friday Night Lights 2×15 – May the Best Man Win

June 18, 2008

Friday Night Lights

Finale episode of Season 2, in which Tami’s old flame returns to stir up trouble, Smash closes a door but finds a window, Jason gets a miracle, and Lyla might just decide she misses hot Tim Riggins.

Frankly I thought the season ended on a really unfinished note, not a cliffhanger note but a ‘that’s it?’ sorta feel. But given it’s only 15 epis compared to last season’s 22, it’s probably why everything feels so hastily wrapped up or left hanging.

S1’s finale was spectacular – Panthers go to State and with usual sporting drama, win the Championship, woot! But I suppose you can’t have that to wrap up every season, so there’s hardly any football in this epi, save the one match where Landry scores a touchdown. Yep that’s how much of a rout that game was. They were serious about the more drama less football in this season

Not much Matt action since he threw his fit last epi, though he does throw a wet blanket on the budding Landry-Tyra romance by pointing out the obvious.

So ok, moving on to what happened in this epi…

Friday Night Lights 2×14 – Leave No One Behind

June 15, 2008

Friday Night Lights

First episode recap! Or perhaps more of an episode reaction to be accurate, since I’m probably going to be too lazy to go through every detail of the episode.

Friday Night Lights always makes me tear, this episode was no exception. This is why sometimes I don’t quite like to watch the episodes in public (i.e. at work… lunchtime! I’m not that much of a slacker) where I can’t tear in peace without getting an odd look.

So without further ado, my thoughts on Episode 2×14 – Leave No One Behind, wherein TMU dumps Smash, Julie is neglected by Tami, Landry has to pick between Tyra and Jean and everyone leaves Matt.

Gossip Girl – Oh, Chuck, mother-!!

June 14, 2008

Hey Upper East Siders…

Well that can get old pretty fast, and I don’t have Kirsten Bell’s sardonic tone to carry it off either.

Anyhow, Gossip Girl Season 1 may be over, but here’s a little treat for fans on the official Gossip Girl blog.

You can skip all the stuff in front about the eminent histories of Bart and Lily and their parents blahblah, but when you get right to the bottom…

The bride’s previous three marriages ended in divorce. The bridegroom is a widower.

No way, they killed off Mrs Bass? Poor Chuck!

*SPOILER for those who haven’t caught the last epi of S1 (1×13), stop here if you don’t want to be spoiled!*

Dexter – Wanted!

June 14, 2008

After the whole Mas Selamat debacle, look what I spotted in town:

It is quite a cute idea, leveraging on these now common posters found all over Singapore. Here’s the copy if you can’t read it:

CRIME NOTICE

WATCH FOXCRIME immediately to see him

Dexter Morgan

Dexter Morgan is 1.75m tall, well-built and may come across as charming and personable. He has been known to inject his victims with an opioid, trapping them with cellophane before killing his victims with a knife. He leads a double life as a Blood Splatter Analyst at the Police Department.

Watch DEXTER on FOXCRIME (Starhub Channel 86) every Monday at 10pm, from 16 June to see how he operates. Anyone who misses DEXTER, TV’s favourite serial killer is committing a grave offence.

Well I think the copywriting could have some grammar editing and spiffier lines, but we’re not all perfect ~

Gossip Girl – Uniform Style

June 12, 2008

uni-stylish

When our favourite teenage Upper East Siders aren’t sipping martinis at Butter or plotting manipulative schemes ala Chuck-Blair (love!), they’re dutifully maintaining their top grades at the Constance Billard school and St. Judes School for boys.

As a friend noted, none of the main characters are actually wearing the official school uniform. Instead they’re all wearing these fashionable bastard versions, usually in their distinctive personal style. These prep schools sure have dubious rules, or perhaps it’s a rule overlooked if you can carry it off? Let’s take a look:

Flight of the Conchords – Trippy Opening Credits

June 11, 2008

Infectiously headbobbing theme~

I can feel my neck twitching to bob along to the beat as soon as the song comes on.

Something about their deadpan faces and the contrast with the boppy tune. Also the fact that everything else seems to have more life than their expressions (Look for the groovy park benches & trees, or the hiphop P&S shakers)

And their dance moves. Ah, their dance moves

Dexter – Murderous Morning Opening Credits

June 10, 2008

Who knew that the daily morning routine could hint of such… goriness?

The Dexter opening credits are one of the longest that I’ve encountered in my TV watching career at about 1:45. Add that to another long montage of ‘Previously on Dexter’ shots, that’s about 3 minutes worth of footage to forward through before the new episode actually begins.

But one should watch the Opening Credits all the way through at least once. They are practically a little show of their own, and do a great job of hinting at what the show Dexter is about.

Here’s a youtube link for those who haven’t seen it:

How this came about

June 9, 2008

Welcome to the house that Jac (that’s me!) built!

Herein you will find various summaries and reviews of my favourite TV shows and books. Expect only the stuff that I love here, biased opinions, commentary that might only make sense to the slightly insane and unabashed gushing and swooning over cute stars.

So with fantastic sites like Television Without Pity, TV.com and my favourite knowall site Wikipedia offering extensive reviews and indepth information about these shows, why should you read one insignificant person’s opinions?

Well whether you read all this, love it or hate it, at this present moment, I don’t really care.

TV has always been my escape; since I was smart enough to figure out the remote control, I was hooked. TV has always been there for me, through good times and bad, I could always count on TV to be comforting and constant (except when they have special telecasts! The horrors of anticipating your fav show and find out that some XX holiday special RERUN has pushed it to the following week!)

In more recent years, TV has been especially useful for filling one’s time in the aftermath of relationships gone south. The amount of reel life I indulge in is inversely related to how much nookie I’m getting in real life. In the wake of my most recent demise, I’ve had the likes of Dexter and Gossip Girl to pull me through the bitterly long weekends.

But lately that’s just not been enough.

This site, my friends, is my choice of intensive distraction. No time for moping when I’m sighing over pretty boy Nate Archibald or searching for my favourite Grey’s Anatomy quotes. I have resigned myself to being utterly hopeless in the relationship line, so I thought I might as well get to know my long time love better.

They might go down strange and odd paths (I’m talking about you, Lost) that we don’t understand anymore, or become rather formulaic (CSI, CSI, CSI), but there’s always something new on the horizon to look forward to (Gossip Girl Season 2! XOXO!) and unlike errant lovers, they can’t change their minds after a few months and tell you that you’re not the one for them.

What’s not to love? =P Read on and enjoy!
