Torchwood Season 1 – 1×03 – 1×13

December 30, 2008

Torchwood

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone! There’s not been much TV of late, so I’ve been using that time to catch up on Torchwood Season 1, and completed 10 epis in 2 days post-Lasik (so much for resting my eyes…)

Meanwhile, here’s my take on the rest of the episodes of Torchwood Season 1. Too lazy to do a recap for each episode, so here we go:

Heroes 3×13 – Dual

December 21, 2008

This episode name changed a number of times, its previous names being ‘Duality’ and ‘Duel’, but I guess the ‘Dual’ they finally went with was to signify both the fighting aspect as well as the double nature they harp on about – people being both heroes and villains.

In this episode, the Petrelli infighting shifts to the new generation, Ando gets a power, Sylar plays games… man there’re just too many people to mention.

This is the final episode of Volume 3 Villains arc , the next episode 3×14 will be part of the arc called Fugitives.

Friday Night Lights 3×11 – A Hard Rain’s Gonna Fall

December 21, 2008

Friday Night Lights

I love FNL, what am I going to do when it’s all over? Cry and rewatch the whole damn thing and cry some more probably. In this tearjerking episode, it’s all about the family:  Tyra gets a morale boost all around, Tim is the bestest (and hottest) boyfriend ever, and Tami and Eric continue to keep Dillon afloat. On the unhappier side of things, Matt realizes he can’t handle everything and there is McCoy family strife.

Coraline the Movie – Alphabet Posters

December 17, 2008

The marketing folk at Laika are seriously ace at online marketing!

This time around they’ve targetted 26 different prominent websites, each beginning with a different letter of the alphabet, and sent them a unique Coraline picture to post! More hunting time for the fans!

After a frantic day surreptiously surfing the net at work, I managed to locate all the posters! I love that they’re all so different yet so ‘Coraline’. Also love the unique fonts for the letters. I’m hard pressed to decide which is my favourite…

I’ve made a pretty wallpaper for my desktop, but if they have actual posters I definitely wouldn’t mind getting it for my room. Here’s a small version of my desktop wallpaper now:

If anyone likes it enough to want one for their desktop, drop me a msg with your email and I’ll send it over… it’s a 1024×768 version. No copyright violations intended, just something I did so I can appreciate all the lovely artwork at once, if there’s a problem I’ll take it down.

Click on the various links below to go to the sites lucky enough to receive a poster. Take your time to read the little rhymes, some of them are pretty funny.

Also check out the Coraline website again, it’s been updated and it’s pretty! no more entering of passwords, just browse through the magical building and landscape. I’m off to check it out now.

Links – Pilot School

December 16, 2008

Nothing at all to do with flying, but draft scripts of the pilot episodes of many of our favourite shows today. Something to read in your down time – see how Gossip Girl’s Lily Van der Woodsen began life as Darla, how Nick George recapped his childhood in an interview with a reporter and Peter and Nathan Petrelli were once Ethan and Harrison Cambell.

I’m going to do more reading when I have the time,  but meanwhile here’s the link to Pilot School for anyone who wants to take a gander at what Could Have Been.

Thanks to Very Short List for the link.

More reviews when I’ve had time to compare what was written and what was actually shown!

CSI 9×09 – 19 Down

December 14, 2008

They’ve finally done it – Grissom has announced his plan to exit. Sad! CSI definitely won’t be the same without Gil Grissom, weird bug enthusiast, overall smart eccentric man with the droll quotes.

The episode revolves around an interesting unsolved case involving serial killers, and besides Grissom’s exit and everyone’s reaction to it, also introduces Grissom’s replacement – Morphe… sorry, Raymond Langston played by Laurence Fishburne, probably best remembered as Morpheus from the Matrix.

19 Down is part of a two parter episode, with the next one (titled One to go) being William Petersen’s last main appearance. 19 Down also happens to be the last unsolved word in Grissom’s crossword puzzle:

19 Down

19 Down

(Thanks to JumperOne for the original screencap!)

What does it say though? I’m trying to work it out. 19 across looks like ’solute’ and 22 across looks like ‘trends’, and 40 across could be ‘held’ or ‘help’ or ‘helm’ or ‘hell’? Uncharacteristically, Grissom looks at it and tosses the puzzle into the bin. Symbolic of how he’s changed? I”m pretty sure the old Grissom would not rest till the crossword was complete, now he’s throwing it away incomplete?

(* A little googling brought me to the CBS CSI Forums where they set up a thread discussing the answers and some possibilities have been set forth. The ones I liked best so far are STAGIL (or phoenetically, Stay-Gil) and STAYED and STAYON, which would probably explain the little ironic look Gil had as he dumped the crossword prior to his departure announcement, that even his crossword is telling him not to go.)

Friday Night Lights 3×10 – The Giving Tree

December 14, 2008

Friday Night Lights

More parental issues in this episode as Coach walks in on Matt-Julie post coital bliss, Buddy loses all of Lyla’s college money and Joe McCoy doesn’t want JD to have a girlfriend. On a seperate note, this episode is named after this book which Landry makes reference to in regards to his relationship with Tyra. More on that below.
