CSI 9×10 – One to Go

January 18, 2009

Grissom’s last episode! It’s sad to see him go.

In the last episode, we find the body of the latest and 10th male victim in what has been termed the Dick and Jane murders thanks to revelations from the original serial killer. It’s now a race against time to save the last female victim from the new DJK murderer.

(I’m assuming the use of ‘Dick and Jane’ is related to Dick and Jane, the characters in a popular set of children’s literacy teaching material in the US in recent history? In my childhood I read something similar, except mine was the Brit version which was about Peter and Jane. The DJK murders are called such because couples were always targeted.)

Friday Night Lights 3×13 (Finale) – Tomorrow Blues

January 17, 2009

Friday Night Lights

After last week’s high-octane-gut-wrencher of an episode, this one feels very much like an epilogue to round up the series. There are still some questions left unanswered, which perhaps leave the opening for S4 to happen, should FNL ever be renewed. In this finale episode, we catch up with our fav Dillon residents, five months later.

I just want to say that S3 of FNL has not failed to disappoint and I hope people who got turned off by S2 would give this show a chance and catch this phenomenal season.

Mad Men Season 1 – An Overview so far

January 11, 2009

So, I started watching Mad Men last night. There’s been a lot of internet rave about it, and it’s been winning lots of awards too so I was definintely interested in getting started, and now that I’m done with HIMYM I got my ass down to watching it.

The first thing that struck me about it was that it is a very quiet show. From the rather somber starting credits to the lack of any soundtrack within the episode unless the radio happens to be on. The only time any soundtrack plays is to demarcate the end of the episode.

Check out the starting credits below:

The show is also quiet in that nothing particularly histrionic happens most of the time. Things just sort of happen and change along the way, but not in the usual way TV shows these days go in that you can pinpoint the one life-changing moment it occured. Little bit odd after you’ve just watched shows like HIMYM and Torchwood where it’s action all the way, and I thought I might get bored after the first episode, but I ended up watching 7 at a go instead.

Friday Night Lights 3×12 – Underdogs

January 10, 2009

Friday Night Lights

This season of FNL has been phenomenal, and it’s really sad to know that this is the penultimate episode of the season, and possibly the entire FNL franchise since there hasn’t been any confirmation on S4.

Still, it’s time for the State Championship – Coach and Tami face the fallout of the McCoy family incident, Landry helps Tyra with her college essays, and everybody else is thinks about their future. Most of all, the state championship was one helluva game.
