Glee 1×12 – Mattress

December 9, 2009

Glee posts aren’t so fun to do when you can’t find nice music clips to put into your blog post! This is the penultimate episode before the hiatus closer – the Glee kids are a little closer to sectionals and are stressing out about yearbook photos, and Will finally finds out about Terri’s fake pregnancy. Eep.

Rachel finally succeeds in recruiting Finn as he co-captain to take the Glee club photo with her, and bursts into a rendition of ‘Smile’ to teach him how to smile for his picture. Right… she also spends most of it awkwardly flirting with him, while I spent most of it rolling my eyes.

All the ‘bababums” made me think of ‘don’t stop believing’ for some reason. It was an overall very fun song, with the Gleeks in blue pyjamas and bouncing all over the place in their bid to become mini celebrities and not have people scrawl on their year book photos. Ok song overall, but most of the time I couldn’t stop laughing at ‘Barry Kripke’ of The Big Bang Theory who played the director of the MTV. I kept waiting for him to mispronounce the words!

It’s a pretty sad song, “smile though your heart is breaking…”, and a rare one where we don’t actually see the cast singing, just hearing them sing over poor Will taking a rather unsmiling year book picture, watching his Glee kids happily taking their picture without him, and then the jocks still defacing the yearbook picture anyway. It was… slightly depressing.

Other Thoughts:

  • The Will finding out about Terri scene was brutal. You can’t help but feel for Terri, even thought she’s a bitch. As Emma says, her methods were so very wrong, but her intentions were true. Will is unveiling more and more of his bad ass side – he was pretty darn scary when he found out.
  • Emma standing up to Will trying to hit on her was very adult and proper of her, considering how she’s usually more than happy for both of them to giggle together like teenagers.
  • Quinn was HOT, standing up to Sue Sylvester, and using the ruthless powers that she learnt from her to turn the tables and help the Glee club. Go Quinny! Though she really needs better dress sense – girl doesn’t know what to do out of her Cheerios uniform.
  • Sue removing her tear ducts since she wasn’t using them – best line ever! Oh wait, or maybe the one about Will and her hatred of his hair, it’s so irrational I love it.
