Glee 1×13 – Sectionals

December 12, 2009

This is the last episode of Glee we’re going to get for a loooong time till April 13th 2010 when the show finally returns, and it does make up for it song wise with some absolutely killer songs from Mercedes and Rachel. Talk about a diva-off, sorry Kurt you are fabulous but you ain’t got nothing if you’re up against both these ladies!

Finn finds out about Puck and Quinn, and the Glee club find out that their songs for sectionals have been leaked.

And I am Telling You (Originally by Jennifer Holiday)

Mercedes isn’t happy about Rachel getting all the solos, and offers up this huge number that leaves even Rachel graciously bowing out of her highness’s way! She has one huge voice and she blows them all away. Unfortunately for her, the Jane Adams girls end up sining that number as well during sectionals, leaving poor Mercedes depressed and she decides to give the ballad back to Rachel.

Don’t Rain On My Parade (Originally by Barbra Streisand)

You Can’t Always Get What You Want (Originally by the Rolling Stones)

With the solo that she’s worked on since she was 4 (?!), Rachel bursts out the back of the auditorium with a stellar song of not raining on her parade. I thought this was totally a Rachel song and it’s finally her time to shine as she brings the audience to a standing ovation.

It then leads into New Directions’ replacement song for the Proud Mary/Don’t Stop Believing – a song arising out of Will begging Finn to go help his team out. You can’t always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you might just get what you need! The other Cheerios/footballers come up with a simple dance routine, and the overall sound is very ‘them’, it’s not a fancy mancy number, but its simple and heartwarming and gets the crowd dancing.

The last number they closed with is ‘Somebody to love’ from this episode, and I just realized that since taking down all the clips from youtube, I need to update all my damn links, argh. Wonder how long this particular youtube clip will stay up!

My Life Would Suck Without You (Originally by Kelly Clarkson)

The Glee club put together a special little performance for Will to Kelly Clarkson’s song, and incorporated all the little dance moves from their previous performances, from the cowboy line dancing, to Kurt’s Beyonce Ring dance, to the Cheerios little sassy audition… its a great way to round up the first half of the season. This song also makes Will realize that his life would suck without Emma, as he goes haring out and chases her down, ending the show with a sweet kiss. Whether they go any further? Well we’ll find out in April…

Some other great moments I loved:

  • The party line conversation where the Glee club members figure out how to keep Puck/Quinn from Rachel. That Mercedes/Tina and Santana/Brittany were walking right next to each other and on the line anyway, hilarious. Brittany’s little bomb about having sex with Santana, ooh… That girl has some of the best bimbo lines!
  • Santana reluctantly admitting that she liked being in Glee, aww. Kurt totally looking like a WASP with a hairpieces and holding his head in the corner, ahahahaha.
  • Sue vehemently denying the truth even when it’s stacked against her, ah Sue!
  • Finn finally finding out about Puck and Quinn, though it took Rachel to tell him… Also, him not forgiving Puck and Quinn right away even though he returns to the Glee club. At least they didn’t try to sugarcoat it!
  • Quinn was stellar here, her mature attitude and not blaming Rachel even though Rachel admitted her reveal was for selfish intentions.
  • Finn and Will finding themselves in the same boat – lied to by both their loves about their baby. ouch! And Will’s pep talk about Finn having to be the bigger person because he’s special, sigh, c’est la vie.

It’s going to be a long break to the next Glee! Now the baby-drama has been mostly wrapped up, will Will really leave Terri and hook up with the now available Emma? Will Quinn win back Finn, or will Puck and/or Rachel prevail? What is Sue going to do next? Questions, questions! in the meantime I’m probably going to be going back to my old posts and replacing my videos…
